Visit South America is a tour operator and DMC based in Cusco, with local teams in Lima, La Paz, Uyuni and San Pedro de Atacama. We have been building trips across the continent since 2015 — from a four-day Machu Picchu itinerary to a three-week crossing of Peru, Bolivia and Chile.
Every tour on this page is private by default. You choose the dates, the pace and the hotel category; we handle the guides, the transport, the tickets and everything in between. If nothing here fits, we build the itinerary from scratch.

Best Time to Visit South America
There is no single answer — the continent spans both hemispheres. This is the short version, country by country.
| Country | Best months | What that season means |
|---|---|---|
| Peru | May – October | Dry season in the Andes. Clear mornings at Machu Picchu, best trekking conditions. |
| Bolivia | May – October | Dry season on the Uyuni Salt Flats. For the mirror effect, come December to March instead. |
| Chile | September – April | Patagonia's window. The Atacama Desert works year-round. |
| Argentina | November – March | Southern summer. The only realistic season for Patagonia and the glaciers. |
| Brazil | April – October | Drier and cooler. Carnival falls in February, in the middle of the wet season. |
| Colombia | December – March | Driest months. Warm all year, so the season matters less than elsewhere. |
| Ecuador | June – September | Best for the Andes. The Galapagos are good year-round, with calmer seas from December to May. |
How Our Trips Work
Private by default
Almost every tour we sell is private. Your own guide, your own driver, your own pace — not a coach with forty strangers on a fixed schedule.
A local team, not a reseller
We are based in Cusco, with people on the ground in Lima, La Paz, Uyuni and San Pedro de Atacama. If something changes mid-trip, someone in your time zone fixes it.
Nothing is fixed
Every itinerary on this site is a starting point. Add days, change hotels, swap a trek for a train — the price adjusts and the plan is yours.

TRUSTWORTHY EXPERIENCE
From the time we arrived in Peru until the last minute that we stayed there, we were taken good care of by the VSA team! Loved how tailor-made their services are, custom-made to the time we had in Peru and the places we most wanted to experience. I look forward to visiting South America again and knowing VSA will be there to take care of absolutely everything makes us more at ease to travel there.

South America Tours: Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best time to visit South America?
It depends on the country. For Peru and Bolivia the dry season runs from May to October, which is the best window for Machu Picchu, the Inca Trail and the Uyuni Salt Flats. Patagonia is the opposite: its summer runs from November to March. Brazil and Colombia are warm year-round.
How many days do I need for a South America trip?
For a single country, 7 to 10 days is comfortable. To combine two countries — Peru and Bolivia is our most requested pairing — plan on 12 to 16 days. Anything shorter than a week usually means more time in transit than on the ground.
Are your tours private or group tours?
Almost all of our tours are private. You travel with your own guide and driver, on your own schedule. We also run a small number of shared departures, which are marked as such on each tour page.
Which countries should I combine on a first trip?
Peru and Bolivia is the classic first-timer combination: Machu Picchu and the Uyuni Salt Flats are connected by short flights and share a dry season. Chile pairs naturally with Bolivia through the Atacama Desert crossing.
Do you arrange hotels, domestic flights and transfers?
Yes. We handle hotels — 3 to 5 star, depending on your preference — plus internal transport, entrance tickets and airport transfers. International flights to South America are the only part we do not book.
Is South America safe for travellers?
The destinations we operate in are visited by millions of travellers every year. Travelling with a private guide and pre-arranged transport removes most of the situations where problems occur. Our team is based locally in Cusco, Lima, La Paz, Uyuni and San Pedro de Atacama.
How far in advance should I book?
For travel in the dry season, three to six months ahead is sensible — Inca Trail permits and Machu Picchu tickets sell out well in advance. Outside peak months, a few weeks is usually enough.
Can you customise a tour that is already on the site?
Yes, and most of our travellers do. Any tour can be extended, shortened, upgraded or combined with another country. Send us your dates through the custom trip form and we will build the itinerary around them.
