Our day started off with a private bus picking us up at 4am from our hotel that we were staying at. Although waking up this early is excruciatingly painful, the reasoning behind doing so was to arrive at and explore Rainbow Mountain early before crowds of people began to show up, which I thought was so well-planned out by VSA and definitely worth it. About halfway through the drive there, we stopped to get lunch at a local restaurant provided by VSA which was very delicious. We finally arrived at Rainbow Mountain and it honestly felt like entering a different world, having the place all to ourselves. Overall, our Rainbow Mountain tour by Hilton exceeded expectations and was worth every moment. My only regret is that I did not book a longer tour with them! If you want an experience that is genuine and authentic, then VSA is the company you want to book with. Everything about our tour was planned out perfectly and so much fun, thanks to this amazing team and their passion for adventure. They provided multiple options based on price range and what I was looking to do. I loved the 4 day option for the Cordillera Huayhuash since I didn’t have time to do the entire thing. Our guide was excellent as well as the local guide. We honestly ate better in that tent than I do normally. I’m looking to do more South America travel and will absolutely be booking with VSA! My only piece of advice is make sure to give yourself time in Huaraz to acclimate before going on a hike. I made the mistake of booking one an hour after my bus arrived and I got altitude sickness. On both days, he came to pick us up from the hotel around 2:30am-3:30am and he trekked about 3-4 hours while my friend and I opted for horses because the altitude and weather was killing us. Even after a hard trek and lack of sleep, Joel would still be in great spirits in making sure we were taken care of. He would always check in on our altitude sickness, get us to our destinations on time, and he made sure our photos were picture-perfect! Our drivers for both days, Hugo and Roy, were also very sweet, pleasant, and great gentlemen in opening our doors!

My overall experience was awesome. The tour package made sure we got to our destinations at PRIME TIMES when not much people are around so we can actually experience our destinations to its full capacity. Even though we needed to get up early for some of these tours, it was all so worth it! Their two days of provided breakfast and lunch was awesome and quite the experience because the restaurants we went to was so authentic to Peru and the Inca experience. I recommend VSA to ANYONE who wants to do the 4 day tour. There was never a worry about how we were going to get to our destinations because of their provided transportation for us. We really enjoyed this trek as we were told that the popular Rainbow Mountain is pretty difficult. We were able to see everything that you get to see on the popular one, but it was much less crowded and pretty simple.

Since we both are photographers, we wanted a custom experience and the Visit South America team went above and beyond to fit our “photography needs”. They provided all the equipment needed for a 2 days camping in the mountains (tent, sleeping bags, camping matresses, small stove, etc) arranged a private driver for both tours  (always on time, which is something super important to us) and they even suggested some secret spots to take very unique pictures.

It was so reassuring to see how professional and organized these guys were as we were going into this “blindly.” The earl wake-up calls were slightly painful, but once you got to your destination you immediately recognized that it was well with it (like being the only one on top of rainbow mountain during sunrise!) The tour guides were very excitable and clearly had an interest in making sure your trip would be one to remember. Our guide to Machu Picchu had been there >20 times, but he was just as excited to be there during our first. Our guide to rainbow mountain (Noah) turned out to be a professional photographer! He took amazing pictures of us with his camera without charging us extra. He then took us to a native Peruvian house for a traditional lunch - could never have had that without these guys! It was alright as almost everyone in our group could understand Spanish. Our driver Wilson was an incredible driver and guide, he was a huge help in getting some amazing photos and videos, and very safe. They say the main cause of accidents happening on other tours is because of drivers falling asleep - but Wilson was extremely attentive! He even let us play our own music via bluetooth which helped pass some of the long drives. The sites themselves were breathtaking - almost like being on another planet! We loved every single stop. The towns we stayed in were also so unique, it's definitely an experience that none of us will forget! Salkantay was the true experience we hoped it would be. Other reviews talk about the hike being difficult due to altitude- and it was. I’m moderately athletic and do cardio exercise regularly - it was still hard. However! I love horses and took the opportunity to enjoy one trek in a saddle. SO WORTH IT. No sense of regret going this route- it gave us the chance to really take in all the scenery through the entire trek instead of watching our step on the very loose rocky path. But either way- our guide, on this trek and others, walked at a slow pace. This isn’t normal for me as I preferred to “go go go.” But I eventually picked up on why (breathing techniques) and enjoyed the hikes much more thereafter. Mike: Mike was our guide for Humantay lake and Rainbow Mountain. His good sense of humor came in handy during the difficult parts of the hike. During our hike back from Rainbow Mountain, somebody got really sick and he went above and beyond to take care of her and make her feel comfortable. The last couple of nights at the JW Marriott in Lima also have been absolutely amazing, with a breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean right from our room.

The only minor suggestion we have, especially for those of you who have never hiked before, is to make sure you don’t do all the hiking during the same week. Give yourself a bit of time to acclimate and to get some rest!

Picked up on time from our hotel in Lima and dropped off at the bus station. Ready to board the bus and realized we left our passports at the hotel – wouldn’t let us board without them! Panicked – we called Hilton (VSA founder) and he immediately answered and was able to help re-book the next bus (an hour later), while we went and retrieved our passports! The only downside to this day-trip is the bus ride is long (~8 hours round-trip), but the bus is comfortable, clean and air-conditioned. Once we got to ICA – we were picked up by a friendly VSA driver who brought us to a local restaurant, followed by a pisco tasting (tour) prior to going to Huacachina lagoon and desert adventure (dune buggy and sandboarding). Huacachina does not disappoint (as cool as seen in pictures). We’ve done dune buggies before in the middle east and this was way more fun! Drivers are experienced and know the sandy terrain well. Sandboarding was a cool experience and here’s where VSA solidified their 6-star experience. My iPhone flew out of my pocket while coming down the hill sandboarding. At this point we were already on our way to Cusco, so not only did Hilton track down my phone (by making numerous calls), he had it hand-delivered back to me in Lima 2 weeks later, when we had a connecting flight back to the US!

Everything about the Huacachina day-trip was as advertised (highly recommended), but how VSA dealt with our “hiccups” of the day – was on such an elite level of service, that frankly we’ve never experienced before.

We really wanted to do Millpu Lagoon near Ayacucho and the tour said it would include, transportation, a guide, and food (lunch +snacks) in the included price.

The guide and driver picked us up super early from Cusco and drove 3 hours to get to the lagoon. They were super awesome and professional, but was surprised to pay for our lunch and snacks but anyways, we made our way to the lagoon and got there before any other tours (which was a huge plus).

We would recommend this tour to our friends or family! But I would suggest making sure that the food is included in the tour!

I was really happy with our driver/guide Carlos as he always provided us with a lot of information about the places we visited, apart from being the fastest driver of them all! The staff in the two different hotels we stayed was super nice and helpful. Our group consisting of 6 people was fun, too. We always had enough time to take pictures or enjoy the view for as long as we wanted. The breakfast, lunch and dinner were surprisingly good with vegetarian options.

I booked the option going to San Pedro de Atacama where I had to change cars at the border which was no problem at all. The driver provided us with the necessary document to cross the border. Not to mention, that if any problem occurred, I could have called the guys from VSA.

Food: both packed lunches and local restaurant selections above expectations – clean and tasty, we did not get sick!

Tres Rainbows and Humanatay Lake tours This tour company went above and beyond! While booking they... read more answered all our questions and were extremely helpful while we planned our trip to Peru! Sofia was extremely flexible as we changed travel plans!

The first tour we did was Tres Rainbows and I am so glad we did this tour instead of the full rainbow mountain. Tres Rainbows was less crowded, had many photo spots and came with a Alpaca that you could take photos with! Our tour guide was Noah and he spoke perfect English and even offered to bring his camera so we could have quality photos! The hike was only about thirty minutes and the views were stunning!

The second tour was Humanatay lake which was equally amazing! It was a harder hike but Noah was patient and made sure we could take breaks as needed. He even had a heart rate monitor and oxygen sensor so we could check our stats. We got up very early for the tour but it was worth it because we were one of the first tour groups there! That meant amazing photos without herds of tourists.

He found VSA and I am so glad he did. We did a number of trips with them (Tres Rainbows, Sacred Valley-Maras and Moray, Machu Picchu, Ollantaytambo, Huacachina, Paracas, Chincha). The whole thing was awesome. Made our trip so enjoyable and stress free.

We had most things planned out before the trip. We basically got to design our own itinerary but Hilton had so many great tips and was so helpful.

The tour guides/drivers were so friendly and knowledgeable. They gave us so much information but also gave us insight into the local culture. Peru's culture and history is fascinating and I think we would have missed out on a lot if we hadn't been able to spend time with them.

Even when we were in Peru Hilton was available whenever we had questions so we always felt supported.

Overall I absolutely recommend VSA. It is a unique experience that is easy to plan/personalize and incorporates local culture. Hope they keep expanding so I can book them next time I go to South America. More read less

Salkantay Trekking is a trusted partner of ours that operates our Salkantay tour as the domes are on private lands. However all of our other tours in Cusco are operator by our own team. We have had multiple groups do the 4Day tour and have heard nothing but good things from their time on the trek. It's very disappointing hearing this about Andre and how he reacted to your sickness. I wish our team would have known the situation right after the tour so that we could have taken immediate action and requested to have a sit down with Andre. Although it has been almost 6months after the tour we will do out best to reach out to our partner Salkantay Trekking to ask him about the specific trip. We will over how we could have handled the situation differently and ensure it does not happen again.

Yes, you have to wake up really early, but it worth - we really arrived to the summit first and it’s an absolutely different experience!

Both the guide and the driver were nice, food was very good (and I’m really picky in this) - they even give you plenty of snacks and blankets - in case it’s very windy on the summit.

We took the new road, and the trekking was ~1,5 hours and mostly flat!

Highly recommend - yes, it’s more expensive than usual crowded group tours, but it worth every dollar we paid.

The only thing I would recommend is to fix the payment on the website - there was a bit of confusion in the morning regarding where we go - classic or tres rainbows. But the guide solved it quickly.

On Day 2, after an early morning wake up, we had another comfortable van transfer to the train station so that we could catch the Inca Train to Machu Picchu. There we met another excellent guide named Javier who accompanied us during our visit to Machu Picchu, his vast knowledge of its history and steady demeanor were definite pluses while visiting this incredible site. Since we both are photographers, we wanted a custom experience and the Visit South America team went above and beyond to fit our “photography needs”. They provided all the equipment needed for a 2 days camping in the mountains (tent, sleeping bags, camping matresses, small stove, etc) arranged a private driver for both tours  (always on time, which is something super important to us) and they even suggested some secret spots to take very unique pictures.

Visit South America was able to provide a private tour to Millpu from Ayacucho so we didn’t have to go with a big crowd. Also, our bus from Lima had run late by two hours so we didn’t make it in time to our pickup. Luckily, they were understanding of our situation and waited till we arrived. As soon as we got to the agency we set off to the lagoons.

Our guide Juan was really nice, made sure we saw everything, and took us to a little spot to have some delicious trout once we were done with the trek.

3-Day Rainbow Mountain Trek We spent 10 days throughout Peru (Cusco, Pisac, Lima), but... read more nothing compares to the 3 1/2 days we spent with Visit South America. We were short on time, so decided to cram the 4-day trek within 3 days, and the VSA crew did an amazing job making this possible. VSA's level of communication throughout the 5 months leading up to the trip was outstanding (they were great at adjusting to our non-stop changing plans).

At first, we we're worried about the price ($550 each person), because we knew there were cheaper local options available. However, after only the first day, we knew we picked the right company and already felt we got our money's worth. Most notably, our Guide Noah was the best. Our trip was particularly tougher than the others offered, but Noah knew exactly how to push us, how to deal with any altitude problems that arose, and knew the vast landscape and shortcuts better than anyone I could have imagined.

As far as the actual trek itself, it was something words can't describe. We decided to the do the Rainbow Mountain trek after seeing the hundreds of pictures throughout social media, but not even pictures can do this trip justice. Every hour, every peak, and every day, were completely different. For example, at one moment your surrounded by vast greenlands, and then the next, you're surrounded by Ausangate glacier and its surrounding lakes. Fast forward a day, and you'll find yourself in a Mars-like valley full of multi-colored sand. Yes it was tough, but every single part of it was worth it.

We then went on to Lima for the food and the city life, but nothing compares to week spent with Noah, the cook, the porter, and the services this company offered. In fact, we're already talking about our next stop in South America with this company. Do it! read less

On every of those trips there were problems. But not on the VSA-Tours. We got picked up exaclty at the agreed time. The trip included a good breakfast and a excellent lunch at both days. The best about VSA is the time of arrival. We got picked up quite early so we could be the first at the mountaintops. It was perfect to explore the landscape and enjoy this unique view.

At both days we saw dozens of people climbing up to the tops where we´ve alredy been. They couldnt enjoy it as much as we did.

Noé was a great gudie ! We were lucky because we´ve been the only guests that booked the trips on these days so we had our private guide. He knew a lot about the history, the environment and the country so it was very intresting to talk to him. Also he was really taking care of our needs. He arranged us horses to ride to the top, because the hike was quite demanding for us.

We really had the two best days of our whole trip. Thanks VSA and thanks Noé !!!

From a few months before the trip, we started with the customization of the trip with Sofia and Hilton. Sofia was extremely reliable and responsible, prompt in her responses and offered great creative suggestions to add to our itinerary. We managed to put together a fully customized trip at a very reasonable price. Hilton even got us multiple upgrades on hotels, bus services etc with no additional costs.

The moment we landed in Peru, we were greeted and hosted by English speaking guides. We never once felt lost in this foreign country despite not knowing a single word of Spanish. Our guides in Peru: Noah, Becker and Indira, were knowledgeable, funny, detail oriented and offered exceptional service in our private tours in Lima, Machu Pichu, Humantay Lake, Tres Rainbow Mountains and Lake Titicaca. Noah was particularly helpful in Cusco, when I suffered from a serious case of high altitude sickness, he was available at 4am in the morning to contact medical staff and arranged for a doctor to come check up on me. He was always there for us and made our trip so much more effortless.

In Uyuni, we had a truly unique experience hosted by Jeff. Despite our visit in the dry season, Jeff was able to locate a pool of water for us to capture the most beautiful mirror reflections. On top of being a wonderful, cheerful and creative tour operator, Jeff has also gone above my expectations to help me create the perfect proposal scenario - in the middle of the salt flats with wine and flowers which he personally brought all the way from La Paz! It shows how much thought and effort he puts in to create a memorable experience for us and the perfect engagement scenario. Needless to say, this was the defining moment for both of our lives and an unforgettable one.

We explored volcanic geysers, lagoons, salt flats, a cactus island in the middle of the salt flats & llamas with flamingos, cute little foxes.
