Is Rio de Janeiro safe?
Yes. Like any major city, Rio has areas that are best enjoyed with awareness and precautions. During Carnival, safety measures are heightened, and our groups stay in well-located neighborhoods with guides who know the city well. We also provide tips on how to enjoy the festivities responsibly, such as traveling in groups, avoiding flashy jewelry, and using safe transportation. With common-sense precautions and our guidance, travelers can enjoy Rio’s vibrant culture with peace of mind.
Is the deposit refundable?
Yes — until 5 November 2026. We understand that plans can change, which is why your USD 500 deposit is fully refundable if you cancel before that date. After 5 November 2026 deposits become non-refundable, as accommodation, Sambadrome tickets and logistics are secured in advance. The remaining balance of the trip is also due by 5 November 2026.
How much extra money should I bring to Carnival?
We recommend bringing around $1,000 over the course of nine days for personal expenses. This covers things like meals not included in the package, drinks at blocos, souvenirs, tips, and optional activities. Some travelers may spend less, while others enjoy splurging on nightlife or unique experiences — it depends on your travel style. Cards are widely accepted, but having some local currency (Brazilian reais) is always useful for street vendors and blocos.
What is a Bloco?
A bloco is a street party — and the heartbeat of Carnival. Each bloco is organized by a community group or band and draws anywhere from a few hundred to millions of people. You’ll find live music, samba dancing, colorful costumes, and an electric atmosphere as the streets fill with locals and visitors celebrating together. It’s an experience unlike any other and one of the best ways to immerse yourself in Rio’s Carnival spirit.
How many travelers are in a group?
Our groups are capped at 22 travelers. We keep the group small so everyone can truly connect, enjoy a personalized experience, and move easily through crowded events like blocos and the Carnival Parade. Small groups also mean more interaction with your guide, a stronger sense of community, and a more relaxed pace. Sambadrome seats are assigned by sector according to availability at the time of booking.
Are the guides local?
Yes. All of our guides are locals who know Rio de Janeiro inside and out. They provide insider tips, cultural context, and practical advice, and they’re passionate about sharing their city with visitors. Their local expertise adds depth to your experience, whether you’re exploring iconic sites or joining a spontaneous bloco.
Can you assist me with VISA questions?
Yes. While we can’t provide official visas ourselves, we’ll guide you through the requirements for your nationality, help you understand what documents are needed, and share reliable resources for applications. Our team stays up to date on Brazil’s entry requirements and can answer questions to ensure your travel preparations go smoothly.
Do I have to participate in all the activities?
No — participation is completely up to you. We design our itineraries to give you the best possible experience, but if you’d prefer to relax, explore on your own, or simply take a break, that’s totally fine. It’s your trip, and we want you to enjoy it at your own pace.
Are international flights included?
No, international flights are not included. However, we’re happy to assist you with recommendations, tips on the best arrival times, and guidance on routes and airlines. Many travelers appreciate booking their flights independently to find the best deal or use frequent flyer miles, while still having our support along the way.
Can I add more days to the itinerary? If so, can I get assistance?
Yes! If you’d like to extend your stay before or after the tour, we can absolutely help. Whether it’s booking extra nights at your hotel, suggesting nearby destinations, or arranging day trips, our team will work with you to create a seamless, personalized extension to your itinerary.

TRUSTWORTHY EXPERIENCE
From the time we arrived in Peru until the last minute that we stayed there, we were taken good care of by the VSA team! Loved how tailor-made their services are, custom-made to the time we had in Peru and the places we most wanted to experience. I look forward to visiting South America again and knowing VSA will be there to take care of absolutely everything makes us more at ease to travel there.
