We really enjoyed this trek as we were told that the popular Rainbow Mountain is pretty difficult. We were able to see everything that you get to see on the popular one, but it was much less crowded and pretty simple.

Overall a 5-star experience, and would highly recommend to friends and family thinking about visiting Peru. Several factors set VSA above and beyond expectations – but the main one is the “customized itinerary” that was adjusted to our preferences, and the experience of the staff / guides that VSA has on the local team in Peru. We had Noah as a guide for Rainbow Mountain and Humantay Lake, and he was the best guide we’ve encountered in all our travels – informative, helpful and an amazing photographer! Rainbow Mountain is difficult because of the altitude and Humantay is solid medium (difficult) because it’s a slow uphill slog. It literally felt like Noah knew every step of both hikes, and it was clear he had our safety / experience as a top priority – even though he does the hikes several times a week. We had Alberto as a guide for the 2-day Inca Trail hike (Machu Picchu), and have similar feedback for him – amazing! Schedule: a big reason we chose VSA, they adjusted our schedule for earlier starts as we wanted to avoid the crowds, and were always on time for pickups at the airport / our hotel in Cusco / the train station

Transport / Drivers: clean vehicles in good condition, experienced drivers – important as you spend 4-6 hours in the car / day, to and from Rainbow Mountain and Humantay Lake

Food: both packed lunches and local restaurant selections above expectations – clean and tasty, we did not get sick!

-Pack a bottle of wine (lol you have to trek with it to the camp but was cool drinking wine under the stars)

-if you’re not accustomed to high altitude, do as they say and drink so much water. Also- the coca leaves aren’t THAT bad. Grab a bag and keep replenishing your mouth.

Jeff and Hilton are extremely easy to get in touch with; Hilton even called me before we left Australia to go over details of the tour. We were in a large group so coordinating what everyone wanted to do was tough, but VSA were extremely patient and I really appreciated this. Jeff personally made time to come to our hostel in Cusco and explained the details of the tour to everyone in the group, which was another example of how they go above and beyond. I definitely recommend VSA to a large group, especially when coordination can be difficult.

When it comes to the tour, there were no complaints at all. Elsa (tour guide) and Willy (driver) were absolute legends and Elsa really knew her stuff. She got all of the best photos at the salt flats and had a vast array of knowledge when it came to the surroundings. Willy was a lot of fun and brought some really good vibes.

Jeff was amazing at staying in contact with us before we went, and since we were going in the rainy season, made sure that we were aware of all the potential risks beforehand. We added another person to our group last minute and they quickly accommodated for this. Because of passenger restrictions at Uyuni for this time of year, it meant we could no longer have an English guide, which VSA refunded us for. It was alright as almost everyone in our group could understand Spanish. Our driver Wilson was an incredible driver and guide, he was a huge help in getting some amazing photos and videos, and very safe. HUACACHINA 6-STAR EXPERIENCE WITH VSA Did a day tour to Huacachina with Visit South America... read more (VSA) at the end of April. Overall a 6-STAR experience with VSA! Picked up on time from our hotel in Lima and dropped off at the bus station. Ready to board the bus and realized we left our passports at the hotel – wouldn’t let us board without them! Panicked – we called Hilton (VSA founder) and he immediately answered and was able to help re-book the next bus (an hour later), while we went and retrieved our passports! The only downside to this day-trip is the bus ride is long (~8 hours round-trip), but the bus is comfortable, clean and air-conditioned. Once we got to ICA – we were picked up by a friendly VSA driver who brought us to a local restaurant, followed by a pisco tasting (tour) prior to going to Huacachina lagoon and desert adventure (dune buggy and sandboarding). Huacachina does not disappoint (as cool as seen in pictures). We’ve done dune buggies before in the middle east and this was way more fun! Drivers are experienced and know the sandy terrain well. Sandboarding was a cool experience and here’s where VSA solidified their 6-star experience. My iPhone flew out of my pocket while coming down the hill sandboarding. At this point we were already on our way to Cusco, so not only did Hilton track down my phone (by making numerous calls), he had it hand-delivered back to me in Lima 2 weeks later, when we had a connecting flight back to the US!

Everything about the Huacachina day-trip was as advertised (highly recommended), but how VSA dealt with our “hiccups” of the day – was on such an elite level of service, that frankly we’ve never experienced before.

Hidden Lagoons of Millpu are a must see Once we came across this location, we knew we had... read more to visit. Visit South America was able to provide a private tour to Millpu from Ayacucho so we didn’t have to go with a big crowd. Also, our bus from Lima had run late by two hours so we didn’t make it in time to our pickup. Luckily, they were understanding of our situation and waited till we arrived. As soon as we got to the agency we set off to the lagoons.

Our guide Juan was really nice, made sure we saw everything, and took us to a little spot to have some delicious trout once we were done with the trek.

Amazing 3D Tour in Uyuni, Bolivia I booked the 3 days Salar de Uyuni Tour. I... read more had a great time not only visiting the Uyuni salt flats but also lagoons and volcanic hot springs all around the altiplano which totally exceeded my expectations.

I was really happy with our driver/guide Carlos as he always provided us with a lot of information about the places we visited, apart from being the fastest driver of them all! The staff in the two different hotels we stayed was super nice and helpful. Our group consisting of 6 people was fun, too. We always had enough time to take pictures or enjoy the view for as long as we wanted. The breakfast, lunch and dinner were surprisingly good with vegetarian options.

I booked the option going to San Pedro de Atacama where I had to change cars at the border which was no problem at all. The driver provided us with the necessary document to cross the border. Not to mention, that if any problem occurred, I could have called the guys from VSA.

Their service was nothing less than espectacular. From the beginning Hilton help us with our custom tour and gave us genuine input and different options to build the best package within our budget. He was even able to help us with changes after we had booked our trip, and even got us upgraded at no cost on our hotel rooms because of a last minute change I had requested that unintentionally disrupted the reservation.

Once we got to Peru all our guides: Efrain, Javier and Noah were amazing!!! They were super helpful answering questions and helping us get the most out of our trip. They all made sure we got the best pictures every time and we’re super friendly and kind to both of us.

Sacred Valley Tour: Noah and Hugo are First and foremost, I have booked with multiple tour companies... read more in Peru and across the world, but nothing compares with the tour to Sacred Valley with Noah and Hugo. Hugo was our driver for the day and continuously showed amazing patience, consistently opened car doors, and always made me feel extremely comfortable as his passenger.

As for Noah, I almost have no words to describe how phenomenal he is as a person and as a guide. There are three main topics I must highlight.

1. Noah knew the history of each site like the words to his favorite song. He fluidly riddled off facts, legends, anthropological findings, theories, and traditions in a way that had me hooked to his every word. On top of that, he answered every question I had (and let me tell you, I asked a LOT of questions) without hesitation!

2. Noah was insanely thoughtful about planning. He planned out our day so that we would miss the massive waves of tourist for each site. It was so nice to have each site almost to our selves.

3. Noah went above and beyond to make the day a memorable one. More importantly, he accommodated genuinely. Specifically, he is basically a professional (I am not sure if this is a fact, but he is very skilled). He took photos throughout the day and captured me in photos that I know I will keep forever.

Finally, I have been in Cusco for four days and this was by far my favorite.

To be honest, more than anyone else, I hope Noah and Hugo read this. You both should know that you are incredible at your jobs, and I wish you the best. read less

This is an amazing experience, very few tourists as this place remains relatively unknown (maybe Rainbow mountain many years ago). It means you get great views with little impediment. Also, you have three rainbow mountains to look at, the climb to the summit is about an hour and you also get an amazing view of the snow capped Salkantay mountains, along with the llamas and alpacas, the whole experience is incredible.

The tour guide Jhimy is amazing, super friendly, has good english and has an excellent knowledge about the Cusco region and beyond. Jhimy answered all of my (many) questions and we had a good laugh along the way and he was patient with my frequent stops to acclimatise and take pictures.

We had a delicious breakfast along the way, with snacks provided for the hike and then lunch afterwards.

I couldn't recommend this tour enough, especially if you don't want to do the overcrowded and less fun Rainbow Mountain. More read less

Salkantay was a dream My fiancé and I began planning our trip after spontaneously... read more buying flights to Lima 7 months in advance. I worked with Sophia on the planning and she was so friendly and helpful despite my million questions and revisions.

We did a couple treks but my favorite, by far, was the Salkantay 2day trek with overnight stay in the domes. Machu Picchu was enjoyable but, as expected, touristy. Not my favorite.

Salkantay was the true experience we hoped it would be. Other reviews talk about the hike being difficult due to altitude- and it was. I’m moderately athletic and do cardio exercise regularly - it was still hard. However! I love horses and took the opportunity to enjoy one trek in a saddle. SO WORTH IT. No sense of regret going this route- it gave us the chance to really take in all the scenery through the entire trek instead of watching our step on the very loose rocky path. But either way- our guide, on this trek and others, walked at a slow pace. This isn’t normal for me as I preferred to “go go go.” But I eventually picked up on why (breathing techniques) and enjoyed the hikes much more thereafter.

Further, if you’ve looked up Salkantay I hope you’ve seen the domes. Yes -they are as cool as the pictures. With the weather we had, the dome got a bit foggy after being in it a while but the stars were very visible before. We just set an alarm around midnight to crawl out of the dome to star gaze for a bit. I loved them- I also enjoyed watching my 6’4 fiancé crawl in and out of the tiny door.

Tips:

-Take your own snacks.

-Pack a bottle of wine (lol you have to trek with it to the camp but was cool drinking wine under the stars)

-if you’re not accustomed to high altitude, do as they say and drink so much water. Also- the coca leaves aren’t THAT bad. Grab a bag and keep replenishing your mouth.

May visit - Huaraz Seriously, an absolute incredible experience with the folks at Visit... read more South America. - We did the Huayhuash circuit in Huaraz and it was seriously one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the world.

Our guides went over a detailed itinerary the day before we left for the trek, and made sure we understood the route.

We trekked through high altitude mountain passes at elevations of over 5300m. This means the air is very thin. Be in good physical condition if you are thinking of doing the full circuit. We chose not to have any rest days and ended up completing the trek in 7 days (over 125kms).

The guides that were assigned to us were friendly, professional and had breakfast, lunch, and dinner ready and waiting for us upon our arrival for each leg of the hike, as well as everyone's tents set up and waiting for us at the end of a hard days climb.

Would use Visit South America again (and plan to!)

Incredible experience visiting Rainbow Mountain and Red Valley with Visit South America We had such a great experience with Visit South America.... read more We got picked up the earliest out of all the tour companies in order to guarantee we were the first ones to the top of the mountain for sunrise. We were picked up on time in a very comfortable shuttle bus, provided blankets and pillows for a nap on the way. When we arrived we were given a nice coca tea and some breakfast before we started hiking. As promised, we were first to the top and had the view all to ourselves for 40 minutes!

Our tour guide, Noah, was amazing and very knowledgeable with the culture and helped us with some awesome photography tips.

Buffet lunch was delicious and plenty to eat after a busy morning! They were even kind enough to drop us off at the bus station and made sure our timing was perfect to return to Cusco. More read less

On the day of our tour, they picked us up at 2am and provided us blankets so we can still sleep on the way there (which is 3hrs one way). They served us superb breakfast and lunch. Sacred Valley tour I am truly blown away by the experience we had... read more with Noah on the Sacred Valley tour. He planned our day out to best avoid the crowds, and there were very few people at all of the sites we visited (which normally get extremely congested). Noah is extremely knowledgeable about Peru’s past history and modern day culture- I easily learned more from him than I ever could from a book. The highlight of the tour were our conversations about the history, which were enhanced by the historical settings of the sites we visited (all were breathtaking). Not to mention, he is also a talented photographer, and took so many pictures of us on his professional camera. We had so much fun with Noah that by the end of the tour we felt like we made a great friend, and were sad to leave!

This was one of the best tours I’ve ever been on and HIGHLY recommend Noah (as well as Hugo, our driver, who was so kind, patient, and friendly). Both went above and beyond to make this trip special for us, and it was definitely the highlight of our trip. read less

Our contact Hilton was available through text/phone for questions during our trip planning and even during our trip. Everything was great until the day before our trek. We were not aware that Visit South America contracts another company (Salkantay Trekking) for the trek. We arrived for the orientation and met our tour guide Andre (unfortunately I do not know his last name) and pretty soon we perceived him to be bothered by our questions. The pick up for the trek would be around 4am the next morning. Unfortunately, through no fault of anyone's I woke up very nauseas and vomitted less than an hour into the bus ride to the start of the trek. At that point I suspected I had food poisioning, Once we reached the starting point I then began experiencing diarrhea. I advised both Andre and Jordy (the other guide) about my symptoms and they did not provide any advice or alternatives for me at that point. To summarize I proceeded to hike for about five hours until we reached the campsite and continued to vomit. I am a strong person and honestly felt like I was dying. Andre made comments to me indicating that it was all attitude which felt incredibly condescending and offensive. I was not offered a horse or medical attention even as I was... No doubt this trek is challenging, but I feel that the guides were nothing short of negligent. Visit South America helped us as much as they could and offered transportation back but we did have to pay for our own train ride to Machu Picchu which thankfully I was better for and was able to see. Again this review is mostly for Andre from Salkanty Trekking Company. I'm all into spirituality and mental strength but there comes a time when you need medical attention and that is where they failed. More read less

If you want an experience that is genuine and authentic, then VSA is the company you want to book with. Everything about our tour was planned out perfectly and so much fun, thanks to this amazing team and their passion for adventure. Since we both are photographers, we wanted a custom experience and the Visit South America team went above and beyond to fit our “photography needs”. They provided all the equipment needed for a 2 days camping in the mountains (tent, sleeping bags, camping matresses, small stove, etc) arranged a private driver for both tours  (always on time, which is something super important to us) and they even suggested some secret spots to take very unique pictures.

The communication  went smoothly at all times and they made sure we were having the best experience. I would definitely recommend it to everyone looking for a tailor made experience in Huaraz.

Turquoise Waters in Ayacucho Visit South America.co set us up with the most incredible... read more and off-the-beaten-path experience in Ayacucho. Discovering the hidden turquoise pools, mostly a local’s spot, was an absolute dream.

Communication was quick, easy, and clear. We were late arriving and the agency was totally understanding. We had a private car waiting for us so we were able to avoid going with a huge crowd.

Our guide was very kind, and he took us on a thorough tour around the surrounding areas to make sure we had the best view of everything! He was very informative as he shared information on why the water colors changed in different pools.

We ventured past the people to a hidden waterfall flowing into another arrangement of pools. The color was the stunning green I have ever seen. We later hiked up to the end of the tour which gave us the most epic view of the pools and the valley. It was insane!

We ended the day at a locals spot where we enjoyed the most delicious trout I have ever experienced here in Peru, only s/10!

Best Thing you’ll ever do in Bolivia My friends & I visited Bolivia and let me tell... read more you if you don’t do the Salar de Uyuni you don’t see Bolivia for what it is. This trip was incredible !

We explored volcanic geysers, lagoons, salt flats, a cactus island in the middle of the salt flats & llamas with flamingos, cute little foxes.

I got to experience 3 different rainbow mountains and some of the most stunning views in Peru.

The drive is 4 hours, but the trek to reach the very top viewpoint is only 20-minutes. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Peru.

The tour also includes a really nice breakfast and lunch. The drive is really scenic and we saw so many Alpacas on the way! read less
