HUACACHINA 6-STAR EXPERIENCE WITH VSA Did a day tour to Huacachina with Visit South America... read more (VSA) at the end of April. Overall a 6-STAR experience with VSA! Picked up on time from our hotel in Lima and dropped off at the bus station. Ready to board the bus and realized we left our passports at the hotel – wouldn’t let us board without them! Panicked – we called Hilton (VSA founder) and he immediately answered and was able to help re-book the next bus (an hour later), while we went and retrieved our passports! The only downside to this day-trip is the bus ride is long (~8 hours round-trip), but the bus is comfortable, clean and air-conditioned. Once we got to ICA – we were picked up by a friendly VSA driver who brought us to a local restaurant, followed by a pisco tasting (tour) prior to going to Huacachina lagoon and desert adventure (dune buggy and sandboarding). Huacachina does not disappoint (as cool as seen in pictures). We’ve done dune buggies before in the middle east and this was way more fun! Drivers are experienced and know the sandy terrain well. Sandboarding was a cool experience and here’s where VSA solidified their 6-star experience. My iPhone flew out of my pocket while coming down the hill sandboarding. It was sunset – so nowhere to be seen (buried somewhere in the sand). The guide and other travelers tried to find / call it for a good 20 mins – with no luck. This was our 2nd day in Peru so a bummer to start the trip! Devastated, when I got back to our hotel in Lima I was about to clear the phone remotely, but decided it was worth a try to send a text to it asking to call Hilton’s number if the phone was found. Next morning we called Hilton and sure enough – someone had found the phone and turned it into the tour office! At this point we were already on our way to Cusco, so not only did Hilton track down my phone (by making numerous calls), he had it hand-delivered back to me in Lima 2 weeks later, when we had a connecting flight back to the US! Everything about the Huacachina day-trip was as advertised (highly recommended), but how VSA dealt with our “hiccups” of the day – was on such an elite level of service, that frankly we’ve never experienced before. A big thank you to Hilton and the VSA Team for an amazing time and taking care of us! More read less
Absolutely Amazing! My wife and I were very impressed with the Visit... read more South America team! I highly recommend booking your trip with them. We will again. VSA went above-and-beyond to answer our questions and help us. Very responsive, quick communication. They streamlined everything without the feel of a massive, corporate tour company. We could text/call/email them at any time with questions or changes to the plan - they responded quickly and always helped. INCREDIBLE! We just finished our first trip to South America (Peru... read more and Bolivia) with Visit South America and I don't have enough good things to say about our experience with them! Hilton made himself available to us at all hours for facetime, calls, emails, text, etc. to answer all of our questions and help organize/plan our entire trip. He made sure we saw all of the epic places on our list and had teams available to us in each country. Our guides allowed us to enjoy our time at each location, and were not pushy or overbearing. We actually missed one of our trains in Peru and immediately his team responded and arranged for us to have a different transport from the train station in a different city to accommodate our mistake. I felt much safer and more at ease knowing we had experienced guides available to us if needed in each country. Machu Picchu Full Day Tour We could not have had a better experience with Javier,... read more our VSA guide, on the full day Machu Picchu tour. As four American girls whose Spanish is sub-par, we were lucky to find this company who organized this wonderful adventure for us and and spend a day with Javier to guide us through our time exploring Machu Picchu. Javier was very knowledgeable about the area and Peru in general, which allowed us to fully take in every inch of this beautiful World Wonder. Also, he was great at reminding us to take photos along the way. The views are so breathtaking that we often found ourselves distracted and you will want the photos once you return home (we certainly did). We also really loved how the tour was just the four of us (four friends from college celebrating our 30th birthdays). We were able to get all of our questions answered and the tour felt truly catered to us. When we were there, it was chilly in the morning but quickly heated up so you would likely want to at least have a jacket to start out but layering is key. We all had boots that had at least some level of traction which was extremely helpful when exploring as the terrain can vary throughout the hike. Finally, and probably most importantly, get a lot of rest the night before. It is a very early morning but the sunrise views... For Salkantay Trek 4D only Overall our experience with Visit South America was great, so... read more great that I am starting my review that way. Our contact Hilton was available through text/phone for questions during our trip planning and even during our trip. Everything was great until the day before our trek. Andre made comments to me indicating that it was all attitude which felt incredibly condescending and offensive. I was not offered a horse or medical attention even as I was vomitting and falling along the way. Andre's recommendation was that I continue with the trek, knowing that the second day would be the most challenging. At this point I was severely dehydrated and altitude sickness kicked in. Finally, that evening Andre mentioned the option to see a doctor but was not enthusiastic about this option. I ultimately decided to return back to Cusco the next day and saw a doctor who had been at the camp the whole time in the morning who basically said I was so dehydrated and my oxygen levels were so low that I should go straight to a clinic. No doubt this trek is challenging, but I feel that the guides were nothing short of negligent. Visit South America helped us as much as they could and offered transportation back but we did have to pay for our own train ride to Machu Picchu which thankfully I was better for and was able to see. Again this review is mostly for Andre from Salkanty Trekking Company. I'm all into spirituality and mental strength but there comes a time when you need medical attention and that is where they failed. More read less

The staff in the two different hotels we stayed was super nice and helpful. Our group consisting of 6 people was fun, too. It was very organized from start to finish. They have very small group sizes so you never feel overwhelmed. Our tour guide, Noah, was unbelievable! While booking they... read more answered all our questions and were extremely helpful while we planned our trip to Peru! Sofia was extremely flexible as we changed travel plans! The first tour we did was Tres Rainbows and I am so glad we did this tour instead of the full rainbow mountain. Tres Rainbows was less crowded, had many photo spots and came with a Alpaca that you could take photos with! Our tour guide was Noah and he spoke perfect English and even offered to bring his camera so we could have quality photos! The hike was only about thirty minutes and the views were stunning! The second tour was Humanatay lake which was equally amazing! It was a harder hike but Noah was patient and made sure we could take breaks as needed. He even had a heart rate monitor and oxygen sensor so we could check our stats. We got up very early for the tour but it was worth it because we were one of the first tour groups there! That meant amazing photos without herds of tourists. Both tours came equipped with a private van, lunch at amazing local restaurants and a wonder tour guide! read less

Day 1: Rainbow Mountain Day 2: Humantay Lake Day 3/4: Machu Picchu 2-day Inca Trail Overall a 5-star experience, and would highly recommend to friends and family thinking about visiting Peru. Several factors set VSA above and beyond expectations – but the main one is the “customized itinerary” that was adjusted to our preferences, and the experience of the staff / guides that VSA has on the local team in Peru. Hilton (VSA founder) was readily available and even came on the Humantay Lake hike with us. We had Noah as a guide for Rainbow Mountain and Humantay Lake, and he was the best guide we’ve encountered in all our travels – informative, helpful and an amazing photographer! Rainbow Mountain is difficult because of the altitude and Humantay is solid medium (difficult) because it’s a slow uphill slog. It literally felt like Noah knew every step of both hikes, and it was clear he had our safety / experience as a top priority – even though he does the hikes several times a week. Other aspects of the trip to review: Schedule: a big reason we chose VSA, they adjusted our schedule for earlier starts as we wanted to avoid the crowds, and were always on time for pickups at the airport / our hotel in Cusco / the train stationTransport / Drivers: clean vehicles in good condition, experienced drivers – important as you spend 4-6 hours in the car / day, to and from Rainbow Mountain and Humantay LakeFood: both packed lunches and local restaurant selections above expectations – clean and tasty, we did not get sick! A big thank you to Hilton and the VSA Team for making our Peru trip truly amazing! More read less

He informed us of what to pack and answered our many questions quickly. We were concerned about the the altitude sickness as we did not have much time in cusco to acclimatize to the altitude before heading up to an even higher altitude. Jeff assured us that the guide will have an oxygen tank and is trained in monitoring signs and symptoms. Our hotel pick-up was at 2:00AM, yes I know it is early but trust me it is worth it! They do this so that you are the first ones there! Everything was very punctual which was very nice, so you knew how the day would go. Once on the road, you make a pit stop to pick up pillows and blankets for the 2hour and 50 min bus ride to the start of the trail. Once parked at the start of the trail it is still DARK! And very cold (make sure you dress in layers!). You can use the washrooms while the driver and your guide (our guide was Noah! He was the best! I will mention him more later) get your morning snack prepare. They have hot drinks, fruits, goodies and a sandwich to give you while they brief you on what to expect. This is where they ask you if you will need a horse or not. For the horse, you can get a horse round trip which is 80 soles or 60 soles one way. You must tell the locals if you want a round trip right away. My friend chose to do roundtrip because she wasn’t adjusting very well. I did one way that way I could keep up with the horse on the way up which would be the harder part and hike and take my time and take photos on the way down. That would also get us to the view point faster so we can catch the sunrise. Our guide Noah, was incredible! He kept checking up on us making sure we were feeling good even though he was on foot (almost jogging) while we were on horse. He also took photos and videos for us while we were on the horses as you need both hands on the saddle at all times since the horses ride right along the edge. You come to a point where the horses are no longer allowed up and you MUST go on foot. It is a STEEP climb. Take your time. I was able to go a faster pace than my friend so Noah had said for me to go ahead and he will stay with my friend. As I look back I see him constantly comforting her and reassuring that she is okay and that she can do it. That made me feel comfortable to go ahead and explore on my own and the best part! I was one of the first few people at the top! Once at the top the views make it so worth the hike! It is so incredibly beautiful! There are no words to describe it. Some people Say “oh it’s not as bright as the photos or it’s dull” you have to remember that it is a naturally occurring beauty. There are no dyes or additives to make tourists like ourselves happy. The preserve it as natural as they can.I want to thank Noah for make our experience so special and so memorable! I will be talking about this forever! Tell stories about this day to my kids and to my grandkids and hopefully one day also take them here! More read less

They were super awesome and professional, but was surprised to pay for our lunch and snacks but anyways, we made our way to the lagoon and got there before any other tours (which was a huge plus). He also helped us take beautiful pictures during our climb!Since our family wasn’t acclimated to the high altitude we weren’t able to follow the 15-25 minute duration hike which we were told was the normal pace for the locals. It took us 2 hours to climb up but only around 30 minutes to climb down (although my brother who was in great physical shape had a much faster pace and could’ve probably done it faster). There were 3 viewpoints and we enjoyed the views in each one. Along the way we also got to see some alpacas roaming around the fields as well as at the 3rd view point!Other little things we appreciate are the blankets and pillows that they provided during the car ride (plus we were allowed to bring the blankets during the hike since it was really cold during the hike) The breakfast and lunch spread was amazing as well!
