Elevation: 3,7500m – 4,4500m – 3,750m
Difficulty: Difficult
At 7:30am your VSA mountain guide and our driver will pick up you from your hotel. We will then continue to make our first stop the trailhead of Churup.
The trail to Laguna Churup is one of the classic hikes of the Cordillera Blanca, however not as popular as the nearby lakes of Laguna 69 or Paron. The hike itself is very fun yet challenging and a great acclimatization route. We drive about 1hr 30mins to the village of Llupa, and from there begin our hike on an ancient Inca trail to Laguna Churup. The trail itself gets narrow and steep, including a small section with fixed ropes all while hiking through beautiful lush valleys and snow peaked mountains. It‘s one of the most beautiful places in this varied mountainous region of Huaraz Once we arrive to the lake, you can see the impressive Churup Peak rising above the lake, a wild rocky mountain with glaciers and cliffs 5,400 meters above sea level. If you brought your bathing suits, be sure to take a dip in the mystical lake! After a refreshing dip, we enjoy a light lunch and then continue our way back to the trailhead for our transfer back to Huaraz. Arriving back into town by 3pm.
