Our expedition begins at 10:30 am (the pickup must be coordinated with our team) We will visit as the first destination the 'Train Cemetery' an open-air abandoned museum of locomotives of the XIX century (1940) with crucial importance for the Bolivian history We will have time to take photos on the site and the explanations of our local guide. Our trip continues through the little town of 'Colcachi', a small town located on the border of the Salt Flats, this place is characterized by its souvenirs & crafts of alpaca, vicuña, and other unique salty decorations, in addition to its salt miners who process salt to be sold to the local public. (Not long ago 31 kilos of salt used to cost 0.90 US dollar cents, can you believe it?). Colchani is also the place that houses the only salt hotels in the world, including Palacio de Sal, Luna Salada, and Cristal Samana.
All set to discover the largest salt desert in the world? It is here where the real adventure begins! We enter to the salt flats at approximately 12:30, among some visits are the 'Eyes of Salt', 'Salt Crystals' and we will also discover the famous statue of 'Dakar' (automobile event of the most dangerous routes in the world that runs in Bolivia). We go further into the desert to enjoy a Picnic Lunch in the middle of the Salar, a perfect moment to feel small and in total peace!
Stomach full, it's time to walk! We will discover the famous Incahuasi Island, Isleta full of giant Cacti that can measure more than 10 meters high. Believe it or not, this island is an immense coral where you can appreciate beautiful landscapes within it and also has the best views of Salar de Uyuni. Our expedition will last approximately 50 min. (It is recommended to take the walk calmly and carefully).
Important note: In the rainy season from January - April, the salt flat is flooded and due to security measures it is not possible to enter Isla Incahuasi, Isla Pescado, Tunupa Volcano, and all destinations where the water could damage the state of the vehicle engine.
Arriving again at the edge of the island we meet again with our driver to go to a place away from the crowds and take funny pictures with perspective. It's fire time! Together in the middle of the salt we will await the sunset and enjoy a toast of courtesy. We will return to the town of Uyuni around 7 pm to 7:30 pm
Best Time To Visit Uyuni? Whole Year, if you are looking for photography reflection: February to April.
About the Rainy Season in Uyuni - Problems with the rains that do not allow destinations such as Isla Incahuasi, Tunupa Volcano and bad for perspective photos.
CORONA VIRUS in Uyuni: Minimum cases detected, safe destination | Taking a private tour is the only option in the meantime, we recommend going between 3 to 4 people maximum. The use of surgical masks is mandatory, the use of alcohol gel for hands is the same inside the car and closed spaces. On the other hand, the only way available to get to Uyuni is by bus (or train if you want an adventure experience) remember that the tour begins directly in the city of Uyuni.
South America made easy! This was originally a trip to solely Peru/Machu Picchu... but... read more seeing as we were in South America, we decided to travel to a second country. We stumbled upon Hilton and his company via Instagram and he set us up in the easiest way possible! The process couldn’t have been better. The tour we booked was a 3-day road trip through Bolivia which most specifically included Uyuni’s Salt Flats. The top destination we desired to reach. However, this tour showed us more of Bolivia’s beauty than we expected! Upon arriving to Bolivia, Jeff took time out of his day to meet us at the bus station and show us around La Paz. As a resident, he was very knowledgeable in his history and we learned more than we expected in these few hours. We left so impressed with this company and it’s customer service. We will definitely consider them again! Thank you! More read less

Tres Rainbows and Humanatay Lake tours This tour company went above and beyond! While booking they... read more answered all our questions and were extremely helpful while we planned our trip to Peru! Sofia was extremely flexible as we changed travel plans! The first tour we did was Tres Rainbows and I am so glad we did this tour instead of the full rainbow mountain. Tres Rainbows was less crowded, had many photo spots and came with a Alpaca that you could take photos with! Our tour guide was Noah and he spoke perfect English and even offered to bring his camera so we could have quality photos! The hike was only about thirty minutes and the views were stunning! The second tour was Humanatay lake which was equally amazing! It was a harder hike but Noah was patient and made sure we could take breaks as needed. He even had a heart rate monitor and oxygen sensor so we could check our stats. We got up very early for the tour but it was worth it because we were one of the first tour groups there! That meant amazing photos without herds of tourists. Both tours came equipped with a private van, lunch at amazing local restaurants and a wonder tour guide! read less

There we met another excellent guide named Javier who accompanied us during our visit to Machu Picchu, his vast knowledge of its history and steady demeanor were definite pluses while visiting this incredible site. An excellent experience! This is possibly the best travel agency in the entire... read more region. The trip they organised for us was faultless; tailor-made itinerary, extremly friendly, engaged and helpful staff members, who go way out of their way to support our needs and the ability to get to places completly off the beaten track, known only to locals. That's what my trip with Visit South America was about. Just to give a few examples of their excellence, when my mother suffered altitude sickness, they have taken her to a hospital immediately, without any hesitation or additional costs, which meant 3 extra hours of work for the driver and the guide. While visiting the lagoons south of the Salar de Uyuni, we saw extraordinarily beautiful places completly off the beaten track, known to few, where we did not see any other tourists for days. Best Trip of my life - 2 weeks in Peru and Bolivia! I have always planned to propose to my girlfriend in... read more Salar de Uyuni and after making a few comparisons I finally decided to organize this special 2 week south america trip with VSA! Best decision ever. From a few months before the trip, we started with the customization of the trip with Sofia and Hilton. Sofia was extremely reliable and responsible, prompt in her responses and offered great creative suggestions to add to our itinerary. We managed to put together a fully customized trip at a very reasonable price. Hilton even got us multiple upgrades on hotels, bus services etc with no additional costs. The moment we landed in Peru, we were greeted and hosted by English speaking guides. We never once felt lost in this foreign country despite not knowing a single word of Spanish. Our guides in Peru: Noah, Becker and Indira, were knowledgeable, funny, detail oriented and offered exceptional service in our private tours in Lima, Machu Pichu, Humantay Lake, Tres Rainbow Mountains and Lake Titicaca. Noah was particularly helpful in Cusco, when I suffered from a serious case of high altitude sickness, he was available at 4am in the morning to contact medical staff and arranged for a doctor to come check up on me. He was always there for us and made our trip so much more effortless. In Uyuni, we had a truly unique experience hosted by Jeff. Despite our visit in the dry season, Jeff was able to locate a pool of water for us to capture the most beautiful mirror reflections. On top of being a wonderful, cheerful and creative tour operator, Jeff has also gone above my expectations to help me create the perfect proposal scenario - in the middle of the salt flats with wine and flowers which he personally brought all the way from La Paz! It shows how much thought and effort he puts in to create a memorable experience for us and the perfect engagement scenario. Needless to say, this was the defining moment for both of our lives and an unforgettable one. This is definitely the best trip of my life so far and we wouldn't hesitate to book with VSA for our next South America trip! read less

The staff in the two different hotels we stayed was super nice and helpful. Our group consisting of 6 people was fun, too. We always had enough time to take pictures or enjoy the view for as long as we wanted. The breakfast, lunch and dinner were surprisingly good with vegetarian options.I booked the option going to San Pedro de Atacama where I had to change cars at the border which was no problem at all. Amazing view! He also helped us take beautiful pictures during our climb!Since our family wasn’t acclimated to the high altitude we weren’t able to follow the 15-25 minute duration hike which we were told was the normal pace for the locals. It took us 2 hours to climb up but only around 30 minutes to climb down (although my brother who was in great physical shape had a much faster pace and could’ve probably done it faster). There were 3 viewpoints and we enjoyed the views in each one. Along the way we also got to see some alpacas roaming around the fields as well as at the 3rd view point!Other little things we appreciate are the blankets and pillows that they provided during the car ride (plus we were allowed to bring the blankets during the hike since it was really cold during the hike) The breakfast and lunch spread was amazing as well! The wake-up call is insanely early for the RM hike, but 100% worth it when your group will be the first to arrive and beat the swarms of people coming for the day. The peacefulness helps to enjoy the tranquility, as well as get out of this world pictures. As far as customer service goes, VSA is top notch. I would imagine all of their tours, as was our Rainbow Mountain trip, are very well organized and provide the best experience possible. I'd recommend VSA to any friends and anyone traveling throughout South America. Thanks, VSA! More read less

Jeff assured us that the guide will have an oxygen tank and is trained in monitoring signs and symptoms. Our hotel pick-up was at 2:00AM, yes I know it is early but trust me it is worth it! They do this so that you are the first ones there! Everything was very punctual which was very nice, so you knew how the day would go. Once on the road, you make a pit stop to pick up pillows and blankets for the 2hour and 50 min bus ride to the start of the trail. Once parked at the start of the trail it is still DARK! And very cold (make sure you dress in layers!). You can use the washrooms while the driver and your guide (our guide was Noah! He was the best! I will mention him more later) get your morning snack prepare. They have hot drinks, fruits, goodies and a sandwich to give you while they brief you on what to expect. This is where they ask you if you will need a horse or not. For the horse, you can get a horse round trip which is 80 soles or 60 soles one way. You must tell the locals if you want a round trip right away. My friend chose to do roundtrip because she wasn’t adjusting very well. I did one way that way I could keep up with the horse on the way up which would be the harder part and hike and take my time and take photos on the way down. That would also get us to the view point faster so we can catch the sunrise. Our guide Noah, was incredible! He kept checking up on us making sure we were feeling good even though he was on foot (almost jogging) while we were on horse. He also took photos and videos for us while we were on the horses as you need both hands on the saddle at all times since the horses ride right along the edge. You come to a point where the horses are no longer allowed up and you MUST go on foot. It is a STEEP climb. Take your time. I was able to go a faster pace than my friend so Noah had said for me to go ahead and he will stay with my friend. As I look back I see him constantly comforting her and reassuring that she is okay and that she can do it. That made me feel comfortable to go ahead and explore on my own and the best part! I was one of the first few people at the top! Once at the top the views make it so worth the hike! It is so incredibly beautiful! There are no words to describe it. Some people Say “oh it’s not as bright as the photos or it’s dull” you have to remember that it is a naturally occurring beauty. There are no dyes or additives to make tourists like ourselves happy. The preserve it as natural as they can.I want to thank Noah for make our experience so special and so memorable! I will be talking about this forever! Salkantay was a dream My fiancé and I began planning our trip after spontaneously... read more buying flights to Lima 7 months in advance. I worked with Sophia on the planning and she was so friendly and helpful despite my million questions and revisions. We did a couple treks but my favorite, by far, was the Salkantay 2day trek with overnight stay in the domes. Machu Picchu was enjoyable but, as expected, touristy. Not my favorite. Salkantay was the true experience we hoped it would be. Other reviews talk about the hike being difficult due to altitude- and it was. I’m moderately athletic and do cardio exercise regularly - it was still hard. However! I love horses and took the opportunity to enjoy one trek in a saddle. SO WORTH IT. No sense of regret going this route- it gave us the chance to really take in all the scenery through the entire trek instead of watching our step on the very loose rocky path. But either way- our guide, on this trek and others, walked at a slow pace. This isn’t normal for me as I preferred to “go go go.” But I eventually picked up on why (breathing techniques) and enjoyed the hikes much more thereafter. Further, if you’ve looked up Salkantay I hope you’ve seen the domes. Yes -they are as cool as the pictures. With the weather we had, the dome got a bit foggy after being in it a while but the stars were very visible before. We just set an alarm around midnight to crawl out of the dome to star gaze for a bit. I loved them- I also enjoyed watching my 6’4 fiancé crawl in and out of the tiny door. Tips:-Take your own snacks. -Pack a bottle of wine (lol you have to trek with it to the camp but was cool drinking wine under the stars)-if you’re not accustomed to high altitude, do as they say and drink so much water. Also- the coca leaves aren’t THAT bad. Grab a bag and keep replenishing your mouth. -wear layers & comfortable boots read less

This means the air is very thin. Be in good physical condition if you are thinking of doing the full circuit. We chose not to have any rest days and ended up completing the trek in 7 days (over 125kms). The guides that were assigned to us were friendly, professional and had breakfast, lunch, and dinner ready and waiting for us upon our arrival for each leg of the hike, as well as everyone's tents set up and waiting for us at the end of a hard days climb.Would use Visit South America again (and plan to!)5/5 read less

VSA's level of communication throughout the 5 months leading up to the trip was outstanding (they were great at adjusting to our non-stop changing plans). At first, we we're worried about the price ($550 each person), because we knew there were cheaper local options available. However, after only the first day, we knew we picked the right company and already felt we got our money's worth. Most notably, our Guide Noah was the best. Our trip was particularly tougher than the others offered, but Noah knew exactly how to push us, how to deal with any altitude problems that arose, and knew the vast landscape and shortcuts better than anyone I could have imagined. As far as the actual trek itself, it was something words can't describe. We decided to the do the Rainbow Mountain trek after seeing the hundreds of pictures throughout social media, but not even pictures can do this trip justice. Every hour, every peak, and every day, were completely different. For example, at one moment your surrounded by vast greenlands, and then the next, you're surrounded by Ausangate glacier and its surrounding lakes. Fast forward a day, and you'll find yourself in a Mars-like valley full of multi-colored sand. Yes it was tough, but every single part of it was worth it.We then went on to Lima for the food and the city life, but nothing compares to week spent with Noah, the cook, the porter, and the services this company offered. In fact, we're already talking about our next stop in South America with this company. Do it! read less

But, every other breakfast / lunch / snack was provided for us :) We had a difficult to find address in Cusco, and one day our van pickup was late by 2 hours. However, we were compensated by being bought 2 free hot stone massages! This was over and above what we’d expected. Because of the early starts, there were hardly any people at rainbow mountain by the time we got up, and literally no one below in our pictures of Machu Picchu. This company wants you to get there early to have the best pictures and it’s so worth it. One thing we didn’t realize was that our included train ticket back to Ollayntambo from Aguas Calientes was at 4pm, but this left an entire morning and afternoon free after the 6am sunrise tour of Machu Picchu. And there isn’t much else to do in Aguas Calientes. We weren’t given an option for what time our train ticket back... This company truly cares for its customers. Our 4 days were with 4 different guides, all whom were the loveliest people with so much knowledge to share. We actually ended up having a private tour for the 4 days which was sweet too! Also, I would suggest reaching out through WhatsApp the day before your tour, as the pickup times the website says weren’t necessarily the same as when the van came! And because we weren’t contacted before our 4 Day Bundle tour had started, this could have caused problems. Overall, I would highly suggest going with VSA! We had an amazing 4 days. More read less

For Salkantay Trek 4D only Hi Ariana,We appreciate all the kind words and positive feedback... read more in your review. And thank you for stating that your time with us at Visit South America was great. It really means a lot to the team!Salkantay Trekking is a trusted partner of ours that operates our Salkantay tour as the domes are on private lands. However all of our other tours in Cusco are operator by our own team. We have had multiple groups do the 4Day tour and have heard nothing but good things from their time on the trek. It's very disappointing hearing this about Andre and how he reacted to your sickness. I wish our team would have known the situation right after the tour so that we could have taken immediate action and requested to have a sit down with Andre. Although it has been almost 6months after the tour we will do out best to reach out to our partner Salkantay Trekking to ask him about the specific trip. We will over how we could have handled the situation differently and ensure it does not happen again. In any case, we apologies on their behalf and appreciate you letting us know in your feedback. The country has so much heart, color, passion, and opportunities for unforgettable adventures. We split our trip in three parts: 1) Bogota, 2) Medellin, 3) Cartagena / Santa Marta. With VSA, you have a reliable source for countless type of fruitful experiences. Wouldn't change a thing about my trip =) read less
Tres Rainbows Tour!! HIGHLY recommend the tres rainbows tour! Originally we had signed... read more up for the one-day rainbow mountain tour but at the last minute changed to the tres rainbows tour, and we are SO happy we did!! This tour takes you to the lesser-known Palcoyo mountain- Its a place where you get to stop and take in the beauty of your surroundings without dozens of other visitors obstructing your view. We were constantly in awe of how diverse and beautiful the landscape was, and found that photos can’t fully capture its beauty. LOVED this tour, and our guide Noah! read less

Uyuni tour - worth every penny This was by far the cheapest tour we found online... read more but the quality of the company, people and tour are second to none! Communication was great, our guide (Aniceto) was kind, knowledgeable, and went the extra mile. Accommodation for one of the nights was basic but that’s what you have to expect. Millpu Lagoon Tour We decided to book through visit South America because some... read more friends recommended it to myself and my girlfriend. We really wanted to do Millpu Lagoon near Ayacucho and the tour said it would include, transportation, a guide, and food (lunch +snacks) in the included price. The guide and driver picked us up super early from Cusco and drove 3 hours to get to the lagoon. They were super awesome and professional, but was surprised to pay for our lunch and snacks but anyways, we made our way to the lagoon and got there before any other tours (which was a huge plus). We would recommend this tour to our friends or family! But I would suggest making sure that the food is included in the tour! I would personally book through visit South America again. read less

With the weather we had, the dome got a bit foggy after being in it a while but... -wear layers & comfortable boots More read less

HIGHLY RECOMMEND Communication is very important if you’re dealing with an agency.... read more VSA replied to us very efficiently and explained every bits of our rainbow tour. On the day of our tour, they picked us up at 2am and provided us blankets so we can still sleep on the way there (which is 3hrs one way). They served us superb breakfast and lunch. I miss quinoa drink and oatmeal. Lol We had our lunch at Mario’s (a local) house and it was very humbling to experience it. It is VSA’s one way to help locals too. Jacob, our tour guide, did a great job as well. He even carried one of our backpack and he was very patient to us. ☺️ overall, If I will visit South America again, I would definitely book with VSA. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ read less
