Important information

During the rainy season, access to certain destinations such as Incahuasi Island, Tunupa Volcano, or some of the lagoons may become limited or temporarily unavailable due to road conditions. For this reason, please keep the following in mind:

  • The itinerary may be adjusted based on weather and road conditions to ensure safety and the best possible experience
  • Your guide will always prioritize the most scenic and accessible locations available each day
  • Flexibility is key — the Uyuni region is highly dependent on natural conditions
  • In many cases, the rain creates the famous “mirror effect” on the salt flats, offering a completely unique and unforgettable experience
  • Some routes may change, but the overall quality and highlights of the journey will always be maintained

When is the best time to visit Uyuni?

The best time to visit Uyuni is typically from February to May. During these months, you’ll find more stable weather, fewer crowds, and better pricing — all while still experiencing the surreal, otherworldly landscapes and the famous mirror effect at its best.

What is it like to visit Uyuni during the rainy season?

Known as Uyuni’s magical season, these months bring rainfall and rising water levels that flood the salt flats, creating a thin layer of water (ranging from 1 cm to 50 cm). This natural phenomenon produces the iconic mirror effect — a surreal reflection that blends sky and earth into one. Because of this, it’s one of the most sought-after times to visit Uyuni, often bringing higher demand and increased prices (note: rates can double or even triple during this period).

TRUSTWORTHY EXPERIENCE

From the time we arrived in Peru until the last minute that we stayed there, we were taken good care of by the VSA team! Loved how tailor-made their services are, custom-made to the time we had in Peru and the places we most wanted to experience. I look forward to visiting South America again and knowing VSA will be there to take care of absolutely everything makes us more at ease to travel there.
